Although there is little information regarding the pre-WWI Bowls section of Poynton Sports Club, it is documented that the green was laid at the turn of the 20th Century. After enduring a chaotic 8 years as a play area, junior cricket pitch and more, in 1964, the Sports Club was approached by the bowlers at the local Vernon Arms pub (whose green was about to disappear in the rebuilding of the pub) to restore the green to its former glory and re-establish a Bowls section of Poynton Sports Club.
The Bowls section of today is as strong as ever with 16 crown green teams currently in action in various local leagues and 3 short mat teams in the Stockport Metro Indoor Bowls League.
